The Balance of Trade between the two Countries continued to be in favour of Australia amounting to Rs. 3, 974 Million during the period under review. This was a slight increase from the previous year due to increased imports.

Sri Lanka exports to Australia slightly increased during the period under review. In year 2006 the exports to Australia was Rs. 6,861 Million where as during year 2005 it was Rs. 6,603 Million. The main exports to Australia from Sri Lanka were Tea & Spices, Pneumatic tyres, Garments – not knitted or crocheted, Glazed ceramic tiles etc.

Imports from Australia amounted to Rs.10,835 million in 2006, as opposed to Rs.10,070 million, in 2005 indicating an increase of Rs.765 million. The main Imports from Australia consisted of, Milk & cream, Machinery and Mechanical Appliances, Electrical Machinery and Equipment, Wheat grain.

The Balance of Trade between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was in favour of New Zealand, the amount of which was Rs. 14,257 Million during the year under review.

Sri Lanka exports to New Zealand were Rs. 1,229 Million in 2006 compared to Rs. 1,007 Million in 2005 showing an increase of Rs. 222 Million. The main product exported to New Zealand during year 2006 was Black Tea, which has been the main export for a number of years.

Imports from New Zealand amounted to Rs.14,257 Million in 2006 where as during year 2005 it was 9,555 Million, indicating a sharp increase of Rs.4,702 Million. The main product Imported from New Zealand was Milk & cream.
